On May 20, students of hydrogen technology and electromobility under the supervision of Milena Marycz, PhD Eng. from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics participated in an away laboratory. This time they went to the Podole Wielkie Distillery and Brewery in Elbląg, which belongs to the Żywiec Group.

The history of Podole Wielkie dates back to the 15th century. From its inception until World War II, the estate belonged to German families. Afterwards, it was taken over by the state and a state farm was established in its place. With the change of regime, its present owners managed to lease and then buy the farm in its entirety. The distillery, where the products are made, has a tradition of over 150 years. It has always been an integral part of the farm. It used to be one of the many buildings of its kind, which, with their characteristic brick chimneys, were an easily recognisable feature of the rural landscape. Today it is one of the few surviving agricultural distilleries.

The Elbląg Brewery has been part of the Żywiec Group since 1999. Since then it has undergone a number of modernisations. It currently occupies an area of approximately 6.5 hectares. The high quality of the products produced in Elbląg has been confirmed, among others, in 2018, by the Elbląg Brewery winning the Bronze Total Productive Management Award. This is one of the most important distinctions awarded to Heineken Group breweries worldwide. This is, by the way, not the first success of the Elbląg brewers - in March 2010, it was recognised as the best Heineken brewery in Central and Eastern Europe. At the same time, the brewery pays great attention to quality and safety at work - as confirmed by: Golden Card of the Safe Work Leader, awarded by the Central Institute for Labour Protection, and the position of laureate of the national competition of the State Labour Inspectorate ‘Employer - organiser of safe work’.
