IEC 61850 communication training at the LINTE^2 Laboratory (2020 edition)

On October 13-15, 2020, another IEC 61850 communication training took place at the LINTE^2 Laboratory. The training was conducted by INFO TECH Wojciech E. Kozłowski, PhD sp.j. - partner of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering.

The three-day training was attended by 14 participants from 8 companies and institutions from all over Poland. They were specialists in the field of power protection automation, developers of new digital security systems, as well as designers and contractors of power substations using communication compliant with the IEC 61850 standard.

The training participants particularly appreciated the following training topics:

  • Necessary additions and changes to the standard introduced in the 2.1 release along with a demonstration of their implementation in INFO TECH tools
  • Cybersecurity issues according to IEC 62351
  • Processing of SCL files during system engineering and the possibility of system simulation based on SCL files
  • Practical exercises combined with the analysis of ethernet frames in order to solve communication problems (using the new extended version of the WireShark application, developed and delivered by INFO TECH).

In the participant surveys, the training received a high overall score of 4.0, ranging from 0 to 5.

The Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering and the training organizer provided the participants with all the necessary conditions for sanitary safety.
