Professor Romuald Szczęsny was a graduate of the Faculty of Electronics of the Gdańsk University of Technology, a long-term employee of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, at the head of which - as the dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering - he worked until his premature death in 2000.

Romuald Szczęsny started working at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Gdańsk University of Technology immediately after graduating in 1968 - as an assistant at the Department of Electric Propulsion.

His later doctorate and pioneering research work focused on modeling and simulating power electronics systems. In this field, Professor Szczęsny is the author of an outstanding monograph entitled Computer simulation of power electronics systems, as well as a co-author of the popular TCAD simulation software package, which has become a research and design tool in numerous schools, universities and institutes.

Professor Romuald Szczęsny was a promoter of active international cooperation of the Faculty - he personally conducted close scientific cooperation with the Polytechnic Institute in Toulouse (France), which is continued by his successors and students to this day. He enriched his teaching experience during five years of work at the USTO technical university in Oran (Algeria).

As the head of the Department of Power Electronics and Electrical Machines, and at the same time the Deputy Dean for Science in the 1996-1999 term, and then the Dean of the Faculty, he distinguished himself by his extraordinary openness to the affairs of his colleagues, cheerfulness, courage and diligence.
