It is with deep regret that we inform you that on August 12, 2018, at the age of 76, died prof. Paweł Zimny - former dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering.

Professor Paweł Zimny ​​was a graduate of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Gdańsk University of Technology and - throughout his professional career at the Gdańsk University of Technology - an employee of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, and later the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering.

After graduating in 1965, he was employed at the Gdańsk University of Technology, where he went through all levels of academic career, up to the position of full professor. He worked at the University for a total of 53 years.

Professor Paweł Zimny ​​was an outstanding scientist in the field of theoretical electrical engineering, numerical methods and applied computer science. In this regard, he proposed, among others, new methods of analysis and synthesis of the electromagnetic field, and developed and implemented the related algorithms and computer programs. He participated in the implementation of many research projects.

The professor's special passion was the use of computers in science and didactics. His activity in this field is summarized in the monograph Variation methods in electrical engineering and the script PSPICE - the key to electrical engineering. He was an excellent, brilliant academic teacher liked by students and colleagues.

Professor Paweł Zimny ​​performed many functions at his home faculty and at the university. He was, inter alia, Deputy Director of the Institute of High Voltage and Electrical Apparatus, Vice-Dean for Science, Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering in 2001-2006, member of the Senate of the Gdańsk University of Technology and chairman of several Senate Committees. For two terms, he was also an elected member of the Electrotechnical Committee of the Polish Academy of Sciences.

As the Dean of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering, Professor Paweł Zimny ​​contributed significantly to the development of the Faculty, developing and implementing innovative development strategies and new education programs, as well as initiating repairs and expansion of scientific and educational infrastructure, including modern auditoriums and physical and computer laboratories.

For his merits, he was awarded with many state and departmental decorations as well as prizes of the Minister of Science and Higher Education and the Rector of Gdańsk University of Technology.

He will remain in our memory as a righteous, noble and friendly Man, demanding of himself and of others.
