It is with deep regret that we inform you that on July 6, 2018, Edmund Dombrzalski, a former employee of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering, died at the age of 95.

Edmund Dombrzalski was born on September 17, 1923 in the town of Mątwy near Inowrocław. During World War II, he worked for over 4 years as an apprentice and fitter in a German electrotechnical company.

In 1952, Edmund Dombrzalski graduated from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the Gdańsk University of Technology, where in 1950-1956 he was employed as a designer at the Department of Electrical Equipment, Networks and Electrical Management of prof. Kazimierz Kopecki.

In mid-1956, Edmund Dombrzalski started working in the Polish Ocean Lines, during which he obtained the diploma of 1st class ship electrician. On behalf of PLO, he supervised the assembly of electrical equipment on the first AC-powered vessel for the Polish fleet being built at the Yugoslav shipyard. In 1962, he started working at the Headquarters of the Polish Ship Register (PRS), where from 1966 he headed the Electrical Inspectorate.

In 1975 he moved to the Supervision and Classification Service (TSN), where he supervised the work of electrical installations and devices on ships in operation. From 1983 to 1989, i.e. until his retirement, he was the deputy manager of TSN.

In his rich professional life, Edmund Dombrzalski also worked as a teacher of electrical engineering in technicians and a lecturer at courses for 1st class ship electricians. He also collaborated with the Maritime University and the Gdańsk University of Technology. For many years he was a juror of the Maritime Appeal Chamber and a section editor in the monthly "Budownictwo Okrętowe".
