Laureates of the competition for the Prof. Romuald Szczęsny award (2019 edition)

award ceremony
On June 10, 2019, the 18th edition of the competition for the Professor Romuald Szczęsny award took place. During the competition, 15 diploma theses (engineering, master's) defended at Gdańsk University of Technology in 2018 were presented.

The award named after professor Romuald Szczęsny was awarded to MSc Mikołaj Nowak, a graduate of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering, for his MA thesis Application of metamaterial structures in energy recovery of the electromagnetic field. The diploma thesis was carried out at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Control Systems and Informatics under the supervision of Mirosław Wołoszyn, DSc.

The awarded work presents a comprehensive process of analyzing electro-magnetic properties of materials based on resonance meta-structures, with particular emphasis on the possibility of their use in energy recovery systems and in shielding systems - from circuit models, through numerical tests, and ending with experimental verification.

Awards were given to:

  • MSc Roksana Bochniak and MSc Aleksandra Gołąbek from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for her MA thesis: Conceptual design of a medical waste utilizer, made under the supervision of Jan Wajs, DSc, associate professor,
  • MSc Mateusz Lewandowski and MSc Aleksander Paul from the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering for the thesis: Optimization of biological processes in sequential sewage treatment plant, carried out under the supervision of Robert Piotrowski, DSc, associate professor,
  • MSc Luiza Leszkowska from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics for her thesis: Multilayer planar antenna with a superstrate layer for satellite applications in the X-band, made under the supervision of Łukasz Kulas, DSc.

The awards, funded by the Mayor of Gdynia, were presented to the winners in October during the inauguration of the 2019/2020 academic year at the Gdańsk University of Technology.
