Laureates of the competition for the Prof. Romuald Szczęsny award (2020 edition)

Wiktoria Lipińska
On November 10, 2020, the 18th edition of the competition for the Prof. Romuald Szczęsny award was held. During the competition, 14 diploma theses (engineering, master's) defended at Gdańsk University of Technology in 2019 were presented.

The award named after professor Romuald Szczęsny was won by MSc Wiktoria Lipińska, a graduate of the Faculty of Chemistry, for her MA thesis Production and electrochemical properties of functionalized titanium substrates. The diploma thesis was carried out under the supervision of Jacek Ryl, DSc, associate professor and
Katarzyna Siuzdak, DSc, prof. IMP PAN (the work was carried out at the Faculty of Chemistry).

The awarded master's thesis concerns the production of a modern electrode material, i.e. structured titanium substrates enriched with gold nanoparticles and functionalized with the enzyme glucose oxidase, the characteristics of the morphology of the abovementioned material, its structure and electroactivity towards glucose in solution. As a result of the work, a material was obtained that can be an active element of the sensor for non-invasive detection of glucose concentration, contributing to the control of the health of people with diabetes.

Awards were given to:

  • MSc Kamil Trzebiatowski from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics for the thesis: Millimeter-wave antennas for 5G systems, made under the supervision of Krzysztof Nyk, DSc, associate professor,
  • MSc Mateusz Czeleń from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics for the thesis: Miniaturization of the ESPAR antenna using the 3D printing technique, performed under the supervision of Łukasz Kulas, DSc, associate professor,
  • MSc Monika Korda from the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering for her MA thesis: Concept for the design of a rain garden at Primary School No. 9 in Wejherowo, made under the supervision of prof. Magdalena Gajewska.
