Diploma of the Year of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering for 2018
The award was given to last year's graduate and current doctoral student of the Faculty - MSc Mikołaj Nowak for his thesis: Application of metamaterial structures in the recovery of electromagnetic field energy.
The author of the awarded master's thesis comprehensively analyzed the electromagnetic properties of interesting materials based on resonance meta-structures, with particular emphasis on the possibility of their use in energy harvesting and shielding systems. The biggest challenge in the field of the presented topics was to design and build a prototype of the system for converting electromagnetic field energy into direct current energy and proposing an experiment to verify the assumptions made.
Metamaterials are an innovative technology that has been successfully developed in the world for only a few years. In addition, they show significant development and implementation potential in the areas of e.g. energy harvesting, wireless energy transmission, telecommunications, electromagnetic compatibility, military applications and others.
The awarded diploma thesis, describing the interesting properties of non-standard electromagnetic materials, was carried out at the Department of Electrical Engineering, Control Systems and Informatics under the substantive supervision of Mirosława Wołoszyn, DSc, associate professor.
