Laureates of the competition for the Professor Romuald Szczęsny award (2018 edition)

Professor Romuald Szczęsny award in 2018 was given to MSc Szymon Grocholski, a graduate of the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics of the Gdańsk University of Technology, for his MA thesis Platform for the rehabilitation of children with cerebral palsy, made under the supervision of prof. Zdzisław Kowalczuk.

The awarded work presents the concept and implementation of the JanekStep platform to support the motor rehabilitation of people with cerebral palsy. The device is designed to diversify rehabilitation, as well as increase motivation and monitor the patient's progress. The constructed system enables the use of the platform as a driver for video games.

Awards in this year's competition were also awarded to:

  • MSc Agnieszka Mikołajczyk from the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering for her thesis The use of computational intelligence methods for the diagnosis and classification of abnormal states - Selected applications in medicine, carried out under the supervision of Michał Grochowski, PhD.
  • MSc Mateusz Bryk from the Faculty of Ocean Engineering and Ship Technology for his MA thesis Analysis of the problems of fast start-ups and shutdowns of high-power turbines, carried out under the supervision of Jerzy Głuch, DSc.
  • MSc Mateusz Burtowy from the Faculty of Electronics, Telecommunications and Informatics for his master's thesis Antenna with a beam control for V2X applications in the IEEE 802.11p standard, made under the supervision of Łukasz Kulas, PhD.

The award and distinctions funded by the Mayor of Gdynia were presented to the winners on October 5, 2018, during the ceremonial inauguration of the 2018/2019 academic year at Gdańsk University of Technology.
