Diploma of the Year award of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering for 2016
It was received by last year's graduates of the Faculty - Anna Rogal, MSc and Paweł Milewski, MSc for their MA thesis Design and implementation of control and drive systems for a two-wheeled balancing vehicle.
The authors of the awarded master's thesis prepared the design and built and launched a prototype of a two-wheeled electric balancing vehicle with a design and functionality inspired by a Segway vehicle.
Like the original, the vehicle, made by graduates of the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering, is powered by built-in batteries, and is steered by a special controller and a gyro system, which is responsible for maintaining its balance.
The diploma thesis was interdisciplinary - its implementation required the authors to have extensive knowledge and skills in the field of automation, electrical engineering, electronics and computer science. In the team of authors, Paweł Milewski was responsible for the construction of the mechanical and electrical systems (including power electronics) of the vehicle, while Anna Rogal developed and launched its control algorithms.
The awarded thesis was carried out at the Department of Power Electronics and Electrical Machines under the supervision of Wojciech Śleszyński, PhD.
