Since the establishment of the Gdańsk University of Technology in 1945, the the Faculty of Electrical and Control Engineering (initially the Faculty of Electrical Engineering) is located in the historic building of the pre-war Electrotechnical Institute.
In 1951, a six-storey pavilion with a cubature of over 7,000 cubic meters was added to the southern part of the historic building, in which the Department of Communications that was established at that time was located (as the Faculty of Electronics, it moved out of it in 1967-1972).
In 2005-2007, the building was rebuilt in the hall of the Laboratory of Electrical Machines into a new auditorium E1, and in 2012, the historic hall E41 was subjected to a general renovation along with modern multimedia equipment.
The main building houses both the office of the Dean of the Faculty, the Student Services Office and the administration of the Faculty. It is also the seat of five of the nine departments of the Faculty. At the same time, the building houses a number of lecture and laboratory rooms, including the two most important auditoriums of the Faculty - rooms E41 and E1.
Since 1994, the main building of the Faculty is named after prof. Kazimierz Kopecki.
