The Department's primary research activities focus on the following areas:

  • Power system security and safety.
  • Power system stability and control.
  • Comprehensive power system modeling, including detailed modeling of individual components.
  • Operation of FACTS devices and HVDC systems in power systems.
  • Integration of renewable energy sources in power systems.
  • Electrical installations and equipment.
  • Optimization of power system structure and parameters to meet the electricity market requirements, particularly for supplying power to large urban areas.
  • Methods and models for integrated energy-economy-environment (E3) analysis, utilizing the ETSAP MARKAL (MARKet ALlocation) model for long-term energy system planning at national and local levels.
  • Nuclear reactors for combined electricity and heat generation (cogeneration).
