On the 26th of May 2020, the Council of the Discipline Automation, Electronics and Electrical Engineering of the Gdańsk University of Technology promoted Ph.D. Eng. Robert Kowalak from the Department of Electrical Power Engineering to habilited doctor in engineering and technical sciences.
The basis for awarding the degree of habilitated doctor was the evaluation of scientific achievements, the main element of which is the scientific monograph entitled Compensators and their impact on the operation of the power system, published in 2019. The monograph describes phenomena related to the work and location of shunt compensators in the power system. The basic phenomenon analyzed was the impact of compensators on the development of voltage levels in power system nodes. The second of the issues raised was to determine the location of compensators in the power grid so that they contribute to the stabilization of voltage in the nodes of this network as much as possible. Particular attention was paid to the latest varieties of shunt compensators.
Robert Kowalak obtained the degree of doctor of technical sciences at the Gdańsk University of Technology in 2005. His scientific interests mainly concern FACTS (Flexible AC transmission systems), in which he also developed and conducts didactic classes in the subject of FACTS systems in the power system. He is the author and co-author of numerous scientific studies and works for industry, including those related to distributed generation, electricity storage and energy quality in power networks.
